The Quest for Old Items

Attics, threshing barns, cellars… they hold true treasures of various sorts. Those are items from the past that are left to collect dust by their owners who do not realise the value they possess. The items sit there waiting to be discovered by the eye of an expert or to be thrown away as garbage and erased from the pages of the history. Treasure hunters do not have to search the sea depths or go through deserts hoping to find a valuable historical heritage… All they need to do is visit our homes and find the real treasure hidden within them. All through the planet, hidden from the eyes of the public, there are valuable items that take our breaths away. The mere touch of those objects will instantaneously take you back in time. Still, the senses of their owners do not grasp the valuable history that surrounds them.

Where to look for antiques?
It is virtually impossible to state all the places this kind of objects can be found. Although there are fairs and auctions where people offer antiques they believe or know hold certain value, large amounts of historical values still stay hidden. Maybe a family of an old seaman holds an antique ship spyglass that has sailed the world with its owner or souvenirs from faraway lands… Historical weapons that hide various family stories or even legends… Rare coins that wondered into many homes by chance and through strange chains of events, without their owners even knowing they possess such value…

Antique furniture, some of it still functional, but of immense value…

Owners mostly do know their furniture is worth something, but do not know how to take care of it or that it could bring them a true fortune. There is also an old gramophone or radio stacked in some corner that could, in able hands, be given a new life and make beautiful music again. Antiques can mainly be found in old buildings, owned by old families. Sometimes visits to such households make you feel you have travelled back in time, paintings, furniture, lighting, cutlery, an old piano...
But the true values are more often to be found in dark, dim places, like pirate treasure. Those are the objects whose purpose and functionality exist no longer, at least that is what their owners believe. But their historic value is still very much existent. Still, valuable antiques are continually getting easier to find via the Internet. A large number of web portals and auction web pages are just a click away and enter your homes bringing a great plenitude of offers. Valuable antiques are a part of history and a part of human culture. It is so much more than pure sentimentality. It is our heritage and sometimes the easiest way for us to stay in touch with the history, but also a very profitable business.
Be curious, take a peek into your home, ask friends and relatives, help valuable antiques see the light of day.
