How to save fuel?

For starters, have you ensured your car properly? Saving on fuel is good, every driver has to bare that in mind, but saving on insurance is not very smart. It could cost you many full fuel tanks, and then it would be all the same whether your tires are well pumped or whether you are gentle with the gas pedal. I am kidding, of course, but this joke bares a little truth as well, and that is: You will not save a lot if you do not have good auto insurance!

Make sure your tires are pumped to the maximal allowed pressure. Do not overdo it if you don’t want your vehicle to star bouncing all over the street. Reduce the rolling resistance, but do not blast off because of the over pumped tires.

The width of the tires is also important. The manufacturer’s tire profile is the best when it comes to balancing good grip and consumption. Unfortunately, that is not the case with the pretty wide tires with pretty fellies. What a shame!

Be careful with the gas pedal. Being gentle with the gas is one of the most important things in saving fuel. Although it feels good to overdo it from time to time…
Regular maintenance of your vehicle is also very important. Be sure to change your oil and air filters regularly, your oil, spark plugs and so on…
A well kept vehicle works better, is more efficient and thus more economical.
Avoid short routs where the motor does not have the time to warm up. A cold motor spends much more fuel and pollutes more. Take a walk instead. That is healthy, and you are burning calories rather than gasoline.
You can also raise the temperature on your air conditioner or completely turn it off. But if the heat makes you open your windows while driving, the air resistance is getting higher, and fuel consumption accordingly, and you haven’t saved anything.
Use speed control devices no matter how boring you thing they are. It is still saving!
Keep the stuff you do not need out of your car. It’s not like you’re moving!
If you get caught up in a traffic jam for a longer period of time or even at the traffic lights, turn off the engine. It is good that the engine is off when you get very nervous waiting in the jam and nervously press your gas pedal, that is, wasting fuel. Generally, do not lose your composure while driving, it makes you aggressive, makes you speed up and brake, and you are not enjoying the ride… All combined, it makes you spend extra fuel.
What if an accident occurs? Then we are getting back to the before mentioned auto insurance.
Believe me, I’ve been there myself…
